Your starting checklist
- Choose a ready-to-fruit kit if you want to begin without preparing your own growing substrate. Check exactly what is included.
- Read the kit’s temperature, humidity, light and fresh-air instructions before opening. Different species need different care.
- Label the kit and record its start date. If you suspect contamination, contact the supplier; do not taste it to investigate.
Oyster, lion’s mane or chestnut?
Compare the exact kit instructions rather than choosing on appearance alone. Check the species, fruiting temperature, fresh-air needs, what is included and the seller’s support policy. A ready-to-fruit block is different from spawn or a culture that needs further preparation.
If your grow is not going to plan
Check the kit’s start date, temperature and moisture instructions. Photograph the problem and contact the supplier. Do not add household chemicals, taste unfamiliar growth or assume that every white patch is healthy mushroom growth.
